The Melody Diachun Show

About the Host: JUNO nominee Melody Diachun (pronounced DAY-shun”) is an in-demand vocalist celebrated for her expressive voice, warm performance and “original material that catches the ear” (The Vancouver Sun). With several albums to her credit, Melody has been hailed as “a jazz singer of the first order” (The Times Colonist) and “a vocalist fast becoming one of the music’s more daring chanteuses” (All About Jazz). She was nominated as “Female Vocalist of the Year” at Canada’s 2008 National Jazz Awards.
Her first two independent releases, Lullaby of the Leaves(2002) and Dreams and Places (2006) presented her as one of Canada’s emerging jazz stars, both as a gifted songwriter and a versatile, understated singer. On her third album, EQ (Cellar Live, 2008), the Montréal born artist took a substantial leap forward, transcending genre distinctions to deliver a fresh sound which unites the freedom and excitement of jazz expression with a modern, groove oriented rhythmic base.
Melody’s musical journey has been extensive: From early lessons on piano, electric bass and French horn in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, to a music degree in jazz vocal performance at Montreal’s McGill University; From a year in New York City studying with jazz vocalist Sheila Jordan, to a steady engagement at the Banff Springs Hotel in the Rocky Mountains. Now living in Vancouver, she is a favorite on national, local and college radio. Television appearances include JOY TV’s “P3: People, Places, Perspectives”, and her own episode of the television series “JAZZMAN”, which airs regularly on BRAVO!TV, The BET Network and Cool TV.
